Back during 1946, Wally Johnson began to create the markets for both the scaffold towers and aerial work platforms all by himself. He did this by starting a business that became UpRight. Mr. Wally Johnson was a really skilled mechanical engineer who resided in Berkeley, CA. He stumbled upon access machines when he began looking for a a way to paint his home.
When Mr. Johnson was embarking on his house painting project, he had a fruitless search for scaffolding which can handle the uneven ground that surrounded his house. After being extremely discontented with his choices, he decided to design his very own aluminum scaffold tower together with adjustable legs.
In that same year, the Snorkel Company was established in St. Joseph, Missouri. The company was responsible for introducing a revolutionary new elevating boom lift to the market. The machinery was made for rescue and firefighting work. In less than 20 years, the technology had developed into self-propelled boom lifts.
During the year 1977, Snorkel sold its very first self-propelled lift. This particular product line did not take long to become the company's main business.
It did not take long for Wallace Johnson to catapult to the top of the industry and achieve global domination with his scaffold. When he had attained this field, he decided to start all over and make the world's first self-propelled aerial lift.
Mr. Johnson during the year 1972, opened a factory within Selma, where he created the "Flying Carpet" scissor lift. After this new and exciting machine exploded onto the marketplace, the innovative product soon out-ranked the scaffolding component as the company`s main source of income.
Wallace Johnson passed away during the year 1980. At that time, the company UpRight Inc. was sold but his pioneering and inventive spirit lived on. During the year 1994, UpRight launched the first micro-scissor within the world. They went on to pioneer the self-propelled mast lift, the TM12.
