Bud Bushnell founded Genie Industries during the year 1966, after he bought the manufacturing rights to a material lift which functioned on compressed air. The name Genie originated from the "magic in the bottle" which was utilized to lower and raise the hoist. This mechanism really impressed a lot of customers and therefore, the name was established.



Genie expanded operations and established itself into different new markets, as the demand for work lifts and platforms grew. Genie Industries was sold in the year 2002 and became a part of Terex Corporation.



Due to the Genie name and its solid reputation in the workplace, it was determined to maintain the Genie brand name as part of the Terex Aerial Work Platforms. This was only decided after the first few years following the sale. Therefore, all Genie equipment continue to be sold under the Genie brand.
