History
Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started during the year 1919. The company was originally founded by an engineer Anton Raky. Raky was a pioneer in modern drilling and oil drilling technology. The first company name was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
The cornerstone for SMAG was laid during 1937, when the Salzgitter Group bought a manufacturing facility for its constructing drilling machinery. In 1986, the company obtained the grab product division from Peiner AG. Immediately after, Peiner was developed into a global brand in the following years.
