Warehouse Forklift Maintenance
Forklifts require a proper maintenance program to help increase the machine's lifespan and is an important factor in allowing the machinery to function safely and effectively. Completing forklift check ups regularly and performing preventive maintenance on a regular basis would help to guarantee the safe and efficient operation of the machinery.
Daily Checklist
In any forklift maintenance program, the daily checklist is an invaluable tool to have. These checklists would document any possible problems. They are required by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration or the OSHA. The daily checklists could also be audited by OSHA during any routine inspection. Operators are required to complete the inspection from the start of their shift. If any major problems are found, the forklift is not to be put into service until the issue has been fixed.
Safety and Maintenance Go Hand-in-Hand
Each year about 100 people are injured in forklift mishaps within the United States. Statistics show that approximately 20,000 people would be injured seriously as a result of a forklift accident. This number represents 54 people a day, 7 days a week, for the whole year. A lot of these accidents could be prevented easily if the forklift had been properly serviced and maintained. In several circumstances, it might seem like a cost savings to delay or skip regular maintenance, however, these savings will pale in comparison to the cost of one mishap.
Things to be Serviced
The manufacturers owner manual would include a recommended maintenance schedule. Schedules would vary depending on each and every manufacturer and each kind of forklift. Each schedule will consist of a variety of basic things. Like for instance, in a combustion engine, the oil filters and the engine oil will have to be replaced sometimes. Hydraulic levels must be checked as well. Be sure to check hoses for any signs of cracking. Additional things include the electrical systems, the brakes and the transmission of the forklift.
