The forklift is a material handling machine used to lift and move loads from one location to another. Each part of a forklift has a particular function. Different parts can be used to transport the load horizontally or vertically.
Mast
The components utilized to lift and lower the load is referred to as the forklift mast. There are various types of masts utilized for lifting loads to various heights: duplex, triplex, quad and simplex.
Power Supply
Forklifts have four different ways of being powered: gas, electric, diesel and propane. The battery is located inside the cab beneath the seat. The propane tank is situated on the back of the truck. The fuel tank on diesel and gas forklifts is under the rear of the truck.
Cab
Positioned within the center of the truck is the forklift cab. This is where the operator sits and accesses all the controls and informational gauges. The gas pedal, steering wheel, brake, lifting controls and tilting controls are all located in the cab.
Frame
The frame of the truck carries all the largest components of the forklift, including the counterweights, which are located at the back to prevent the truck from tipping when loaded. The frame consists of the overhead guard which protects the operator. The undercarriage holds the driveshaft, axles and wheels.
